New York, 1895
The highway commissioners held a meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday. Commissioner Wolff presided. President Hart, of the Long Island electric railroad company, appeared before the board and asked that the company be allowed to use cobblestone, or any other stone that they desired, excepting granite blocks. He said that a law was passed by the last legislature to the effect that quarried stone must be cut and dressed where used. The company could not bring the blocks from the quarry and dress them here, the expense being too great. The company could not carry out their contract with the town unless the commissioners substituted some other kind of paving.
The company also asked the right to erect a temporary bridge over the tracks of the New York and Rockaway beach railroad tracks at Ocean avenue, Ozone Park. The company has made arrangements to commence work on the first of March.
On motion of Commissioner Baker, the matter was laid over in order to give the board time to consult counsel.
