The Point o' Woods Wharf Gone

New York, 1895

The $5,000 wharf built last spring by the Chautauqua association at Point o' Woods has been swept away by the breaking up of the ice in the Great South Bay. Particular attention was paid to the erection of the dock, and it was thought to be strong enough to withstand the tremendous ice runs that occasionally take place in those waters. When the ice began moving, however, it was wiped away like so much cardboard.
