New York, 1895
The work of deepening the channel of Flushing Bay will be begun soon. The contract has been awarded to J. H. Fenner of Jersey City. Fenner's bid was 18 cents per cubic yard of material, the lowest for which any similar work has ever been done in the bay. As there is $3,500 available for this improvement, at the contract price of eighteen cents, the government is able to have about 19,500 yards of mud taken from the channel, which will be made eight feet deep at low tide. The work must be finished by November next.
