Montpelier, Vt., Sept. 23. — The expenses of the United States senatorial campaign of Senator Carroll Page of Hyde Park were $21,445.48, and of Ex-Gov. Allen M. Fletcher of Cavendish, $22,425.39, according to sworn returns filed with the secretary of state.
Page and Fletcher, who were candidates for the Republican nomination in the first Vermont primary, fought each other with literature and advertising. This is the first year that accounting of campaign expenses has been required in this state.
Gov. C. W. Gates, who ran only a little behind Fletcher, spent less than $500.
