Girl Goes 100 Yards Under Ice To Rescue Her Dog

1909

GIRL LIVES LONG UNDER THE ICE

Denver, Colo., Dec. 14. — Delia Krug, 11 years old, risked her life and nearly lost it in rescuing her pet spaniel from drowning. She was swept under the ice on Mullin mill ditch in the suburbs of the city and carried 100 yards down stream.

A dozen men who had seen the accident rushed upon the ice searching for a trace of the child, and one of them finally caught sight of her bright colored dress through the ice. All seized bars and pieces of iron pipe and, breaking through the ice, brought the girl to the surface.

She was unconscious and was revived with difficulty. The dog, still clasped in her arms, seemed little the worse for its experience.
