Women Marries Man Over Phone, Turns Out to Be Fake

1920

"PHONE MARRIAGE" LASTS ONLY 5 DAYS; MAN JAILED

By United Press Leased Wire

Detroit. - Telephone marriages in the "movies" were quite common, 18 year old Louise Cody knew, so when her friend, Carl Ackerman called her one day with the information he had a "parson" in the booth with him and asked "would she marry him immediately?" she thought it quite a lark.

They lived happily together - for five days.

During that period, Louise told authorities today, she began to suspect the ceremony had not been quite in order. She went home and thought it over and came to the conclusion she had been fooled.

"Oh, she's just like the rest of 'em - you can't depend on any of them," Ackerman declared in his cell today. "She was such a nice girl, too," he said.
