"Speaking of the force of habit," said S. B. Dayter, "reminds me of a pet dog belonging to a cousin of mine. They had taught the animal to walk on his hind feet and hold up his front legs like arms. There were a number of children in the family, and they kept the dog performing this trick until he began to do it of his own accord. It was not long before he went everywhere on his two feet, the others becoming practically useless to him, and for the last three years I have never seen him stand upon all fours, except for a very few minutes at a time. He could walk as rapidly as he could when four feet were used, and as he goes up the street every one stops to look at him." — Cincinnati Enquirer.
