New York, 1895
Patrick Curry, a laborer, 35 years old, of Woodside, was taken to St. John's hospital Sunday night with both legs frozen below the knees. A towerman on the Blissville crossing on the Long Island railroad heard groans coming from the direction of a pond of water. Upon investigation he found Curry lying on the bank with his legs frozen fast in the ice. It is probable that both legs will have to be amputated.
